✵ Materials You’ll Need
Yarn Recommendations
Yarn: Worsted weight (#4) yarn is ideal—easy to work with and great for beginners.
Fiber: Go for organic cotton or wool for softness, durability, and crisp stitch definition.
Colours: Use two complementary shades per square for contrast and texture.
Inspiration combos:
🌿 Forest green & cream
❄️ Smoky grey & pale blue
🌼 Yellow & muted lavender
Using two colours really makes your stitches shine!
Yarns to Avoid
Skip slippery yarns like silk blends or super thin lace-weight cotton—they can be tricky to control and might cause frustration. Go for something soft, smooth, and easy to work with.

🧶 Yarn & Hook Tips for This Pattern
Recommended Yarn
Try Lion Brand Basic Stitch Anti-Pilling Yarn in a light color. It’s beginner-friendly, doesn’t split easily, and the stitches show up clearly—perfect for practice. Plus, it holds up well wash after wash.
Best Hook to Use
Start with a G-6 (4mm) hook for worsted weight yarn. Metal or plastic hooks work great for beginners—they help the yarn glide smoothly.
If you're looking for a full set, the Yarniss Crochet Hook Set on Amazon is a great choice. It includes 14 sizes (2mm–10mm), has comfy rubber grips, and smooth aluminum tips to help keep your tension just right.

Turn your work.
Row 2
Ch 3
*Work 1 dc in between the pair of dc from the previous row,
then work 2 dc into the next single dc.*
Repeat from * to * across the row.
Finish with 1 dc in the top of the turning chain from the previous row.
Turn your work..
Rows 3–15 (or to desired height)
Repeat Row 2 until square measures approximately 20 cm (about 15 rows).
Feel free to stop sooner or go longer for a smaller or larger square..
To Finish:
Cut yarn, leaving a 6-inch (15 cm) tail.
Pull the tail through the last loop on your hook to secure.
Weave in all ends with a yarn needle.
Block your finished square to smooth out the edges.
3 Tips for Success with This Crochet Pattern
▶Mark Your Starting Stitch
When working into the 3rd chain from the hook in Row 1, it can be easy to miscount. Use a stitch marker to mark the first dc you make. This helps you stay on track and ensures your edges stay straight.
▶ Look Between the Stitches, Not in Them
In Row 2 and beyond, when it says to work between the pair of dc, insert your hook between the stitches, not into the top loops. This gives the blanket a more open, textured look and helps keep the stitch pattern flowing.
▶Keep Your Edges Tidy
Always place your final dc into the top of the turning chain at the end of each row — not the space beside it. This keeps your edges straight and makes seaming or bordering easier later.
✨ Finishing Your Crochet Project Strong
Well done — you’ve just completed a beautiful square and built up your stitch confidence along the way.
Whether you’re using this as part of a crochet blanket, a cushion cover, or just to practice your technique, remember: every project is a step forward in your crochet journey.
Now block it, admire it, and get ready for your next make.
