5 Valentine's Crochet Gift Patterns You Can Make This Weekend
Valentine's Day is just around the corner, and I believe there is something truly special about giving a handmade gift.
While store-bought chocolates are sweet, a crocheted heart made with your own hands? That's a gift that shows you really care.
The best part?
Most of these Valentine crochet projects can be finished in just an afternoon, making them perfect for last-minute gifts or weekend crafting sessions.

Why Handmade Valentine's Gifts Are Extra Special
In a world of mass-produced everything, taking the time to create something by hand shows genuine thoughtfulness. A crocheted heart becomes a keepsake—something your loved one can treasure for years, not just until the chocolate's gone.
Plus, if you're learning to crochet or want to build your confidence with new stitches, Valentine's projects are ideal. They're small, quick, and forgiving—perfect practice pieces that also happen to make beautiful gifts.
Pattern #1: Mini Heart (FREE Pattern Included!)
Perfect for: Decorating for creating a mini heart garland or using as gift tags
Skill level: Beginner-friendly
Time to make: About 1-2 hours
These sweet little hearts are one of my favourite quick projects. You can make each heart in about 10- minutes once you get the rhythm down, and they look absolutely adorable strung together.
What you'll need:
small amount of DK weight yarn in your choice of colours (pink, red, white, or mix them up!)
3.5 mm crochet hook
Scissors
Yarn needle for weaving in ends
How to Crochet the Mini Heart
This simple crochet heart is worked in just one round, starting with a magic circle. The magic is in combining different stitches directly into the circle to create that perfect heart shape. THIS PATTERN USES US TERMINOLOGY WITH UK EQUIVALENTS SHOWN IN BRACKETS.
STEP 1: CREATE A MAGIC CIRCLE
Create a magic circle, leaving a 15cm (6") tail to pull tight later.
A magic circle gives your heart a neat, gap-free centre.
STEP 2: FORM THE HEART SHAPE
All stitches are worked directly into the magic circle.
Chain 4
Work 3 treble crochet [UK: 3 double treble] into the circle
Work 3 double crochet [UK: 3 treble] into the circle
Chain 1 — this creates the small dip at the top centre of the heart
Work 1 treble crochet [UK: 1 double treble] into the circle
Chain 1 — this shapes the side curve
Work 3 double crochet [UK: 3 treble] into the circle
Work 3 treble crochet [UK: 3 double treble] into the circle
Chain 3, then slip stitch into the centre of the circle to finish
TO FINISH:
Pull the magic circle tail tight from the back to close the centre neatly
Fasten off and weave in both ends securely
Your little crochet heart is complete! ❤
MAKING YOUR GARLNAD
Once you've mastered the first heart, continue creating more hearts following the same pattern. The number of hearts you crochet depends on your desired garland length.
I like to crochet 21 hearts, which gives me a nice length of 220 cm (86 inches).
Joining Your Hearts Together:
Chain 50 for the first hanging loop
Work 1 single crochet [UK: double crochet] into the top right of your first heart
Chain 6 across the top of the heart
Work 1 single crochet [UK: double crochet] into the top left of the same heart
Chain 11 to space between hearts
Repeat steps 2-5 for each heart
Chain 50 for the second hanging loop
Fasten off and weave in ends
STYLING IDEAS
Create an ombré effect by gradually changing colors
Make mini garlands with 5-7 hearts for gift packages
Use as a photo prop or backdrop decoration
Attach single hearts as gift tags instead of bows
Create different sized hearts by using different yarn weights

Tips for Success with Valentine's Crochet Projects
Before you start stitching, here are a few tips that'll make your projects turn out beautifully:
Choose the right yarn: For hearts and small projects, DK or worsted weight works best. You want good stitch definition so your shaping shows up nicely.
Weave in ends as you go: Trust me on this one. Don't leave them all for the end! Your future self will thank you.
Block your finished pieces: A quick steam or wet block makes flat hearts lay perfectly and gives 3D hearts a professional finish.
Start with the free pattern: Make a few mini hearts from the free pattern above to get comfortable, then dive into the bundle patterns with confidence!
