✵ Materials You’ll Need

Yarn Recommendations

Yarn: Worsted weight (#4) yarn is ideal—easy to work with and great for beginners.
Fiber: Go for organic cotton or wool for softness, durability, and crisp stitch definition.
Colours: Use two complementary shades per square for contrast and texture.

Inspiration combos:
🌿 Forest green & cream
❄️ Smoky grey & pale blue
🌼 Yellow & muted lavender

Using two colours really makes your stitches shine!

Yarns to Avoid
Skip slippery yarns like silk blends or super thin lace-weight cotton—they can be tricky to control and might cause frustration. Go for something soft, smooth, and easy to work with.

🧶 Yarn & Hook Tips for This Pattern

Recommended Yarn
Try Lion Brand Basic Stitch Anti-Pilling Yarn in a light color. It’s beginner-friendly, doesn’t split easily, and the stitches show up clearly—perfect for practice. Plus, it holds up well wash after wash.

Best Hook to Use
Start with a G-6 (4mm) hook for worsted weight yarn. Metal or plastic hooks work great for beginners—they help the yarn glide smoothly.

If you're looking for a full set, the Yarniss Crochet Hook Set on Amazon is a great choice. It includes 14 sizes (2mm–10mm), has comfy rubber grips, and smooth aluminum tips to help keep your tension just right.

Start the Crochet Pattern

Instructions:

Foundation:

Ch 30.
Want to make it bigger or smaller? Use a multiple of 3 + 3.

Row 1:

Work 1 double crochet (dc) in the 3rd chain from your hook (counts as your first dc).
Work 1 dc in each chain across.
Turn your work.

Row 2:

Ch 1 (does not count as a stitch).
Work 1 single crochet (sc) into the first stitch.

* Ch 3, skip 3 stitches, 1 sc in the next stitch*
Repeat from * to * across the row.
Turn your work.

You should end with 1 sc in the last stitch.
Double-check that your stitch count supports even repeats.

Row 3:

Ch 3 (counts as first dc).
Work 2 dc into the first ch-3 space.
Work 3 dc into each remaining ch-3 space across the row.

In the final ch-3 space, work 2 dc. Then, work 1 dc into the top of the last sc.
Turn your work.

To Continue:

To continue the pattern, repeat row 2 and 3 until your square is the size you want.

To Finish:

  1. Cut yarn, leaving a 6-inch (15 cm) tail.

  2. Pull the tail through the last loop on your hook to secure.

  3. Weave in all ends with a yarn needle.

  4. Block your finished square to smooth out the edges.

3 Tips for Success with This Crochet Pattern

Use Stitch Markers at the Beginning of Rows
With chain spaces and skipped stitches, it’s easy to lose track of the first stitch in each row. Marking the first stitch helps keep your edges straight and stitch count on track.

Count Chain Spaces and DCs
Each repeat relies on the correct balance between double crochets and chain spaces. Take a moment after each row to count your repeats and make sure everything lines up.

Watch Your Tension
This open, airy pattern looks best with relaxed, even tension. Too tight and it’ll pucker—too loose and it may stretch out. Let your yarn flow smoothly through your fingers.

💛 Trust the Process, Enjoy the Journey!

This square is a celebration of showing up—of choosing creativity, even when life is busy.

Each row you finish is proof that you're capable of learning, growing, and making something beautiful with your own hands.

You're not just crocheting a square—you're building confidence, one stitch at a time.

Keep going. You're right where you need to be.

Happy crocheting, and see you next week for another stitch-filled adventure! ✨ ✨
