Crochet home decoration doesn't have to mean big projects

For years I thought home décor projects had to be complicated to look impressive.

Turn tout that the pieces I love most in my home are the simplest ones. They're the basket beside the sofa that catches all the remote controls. The handmade plant hanger by the window. The little crochet cover around a glass jar that makes fresh flowers feel just a bit more special.

The trick is choosing projects that work for your home and you'll use every day.

When something has a purpose, you're far more likely to finish it—and every finished project makes the next one feel easier.

1. Plant pot covers that make every room feel alive

If you've read my blog before, you'll know I have a bit of an obsession with houseplants.

Plants instantly soften a room. They add colour, texture and life, and I genuinely think they make a home feel calmer. Research even suggests that indoor plants can help reduce stress and improve wellbeing, which is reason enough for me to keep adding another one whenever I visit the garden centre.

But I rarely fall in love with the plastic pots they come in.

That's why I started making crochet plant pot covers.

Instead of trying to find the perfect planter in the shops, I simply make one that matches my home. It adds texture, warmth and personality in an afternoon.

If you have a favourite plant sitting in a plain plastic pot, this might be the quickest way to transform an entire corner of your home.

2. Hanging plant holders that create space

One of my favourite ways to display plants is by hanging them.

A crochet hanging plant holder draws your eye upwards, makes a room feel bigger, and frees up precious shelf space at the same time.

Even one hanging plant near a sunny window can completely change the atmosphere of a room.

If you've never tried one before, you might surprise yourself with how quickly it comes together.

3. A crochet mesh bag for everyday living

Beautiful homes also need practical storage.

A crochet mesh bag is one of those useful pieces you will find yourself reaching for again and again. Use it for shopping trips, storing produce, carrying your latest crochet project, or keeping everyday items organised.

I love projects like this because they prove that handmade doesn't have to mean delicate or just decorative. Crochet can be both beautiful and useful.

4. Hanging storage baskets that keep clutter under control

I believe the best storage solutions are the ones you actually enjoy looking at.

A hanging crochet basket keeps everyday items close while adding texture and personality to your walls. Use one in your bathroom, office, craft space, or kitchen for those little things that always need a home.

It is a simple way to create more calm without adding more furniture.

If you've ever been to one of my crochet basket workshops, you'll already know how much I love crochet baskets.

I honestly have one in every room of my house.

They're probably my favourite example of practical things to crochet because they work so hard while making your home feel softer and more personal.

6. A crochet wall hanging

Not every crochet project needs to be practical.

Sometimes we make things simply because they bring us joy.

A crochet wall hanging adds texture, colour, and personality to a space. It is a beautiful way to decorate a blank wall with something that feels completely unique to your home.

7. A crochet glass jar cover

The smallest details often make the biggest difference.

A simple glass jar can become a beautiful vase, candle holder, or storage piece with a handmade crochet cover. It is another reminder that you don't need to completely redesign your home to make it feel special.

Sometimes one small handmade touch is enough.

8. A waffle stitch basket that holds its shape

Texture is one of my favourite things about crochet home accessories.

The waffle stitch creates a beautiful, structured fabric that makes this basket both practical and stylish. It is perfect for storing blankets, yarn, toys, or anything else that needs a beautiful place to live.

This is the kind of handmade piece that works in any room of the house.
